You need door knobs that work every single time you turn the handle. No sticking. No misalignment. No wondering if the door actually locked when you left for work.
That’s what proper installation gets you. Hardware that fits your door frame correctly, latches without forcing it, and gives you the security you’re paying for. Most installation problems come down to alignment—the strike plate doesn’t line up with the latch, the backset measurement is wrong, or the hole wasn’t drilled at the right depth.
We measure twice and install once. You get hardware that functions the way it should from day one, installed by someone who’s done this thousands of times. No guessing. No going back to fix what didn’t work the first time.
We’ve been in the locksmithing business since the late 1800s. We’re now on our fourth generation—Chuck and Tom McCausland learned this trade from their father Walt, who learned it from his father before him.
We’re the largest locksmith company serving the Delaware Valley, and we’ve had a physical storefront in Prospect Park for decades. That means you can walk in, talk to someone face-to-face, and see the hardware before we install it. We’re not a mobile-only operation that shows up in an unmarked van.
Yeadon homeowners deal with the same property crime concerns as the rest of Delaware County—a property crime happens here every couple of days. Solid door hardware is one of the simplest ways to make your home less of a target. We help you choose the right locks and install them so they actually protect what matters.
First, we assess what you currently have and what you need. Not every door knob fits every door, and not every homeowner needs the same level of security. If you’re replacing an old knob, we check the existing bore hole, backset, and door thickness to make sure the new hardware will fit without modification.
Then we remove the old hardware and prep the door if needed. Sometimes that means adjusting the strike plate or deepening the latch hole. Sometimes the door itself needs minor work to ensure proper alignment. We handle that on-site.
Installation usually takes 5 to 10 minutes per door once the prep is done. We install the new knob or lever, test the latch mechanism, adjust the strike plate for smooth operation, and make sure everything locks and unlocks without resistance. You shouldn’t have to slam your door to get it to latch.
Before we leave, we test it multiple times and show you how everything works. If you’re getting keyed locks, we can key them all to match so you’re not juggling multiple keys for your own house.
Ready to get started?
You’re getting more than just someone who knows how to use a screwdriver. We bring the right tools, the right hardware options, and the experience to spot problems before they become expensive fixes.
We carry Kwikset, Schlage, and Medeco—brands that hold up over time. If you want a basic privacy lock for a bathroom, we’ve got it. If you want a high-security deadbolt with pick resistance for your front door, we’ve got that too. We can also install smart locks and keyless entry systems if you’re upgrading to something more modern.
In Yeadon, a lot of homes were built decades ago, and the door frames aren’t always standard. We’ve worked on enough older homes to know how to adapt new hardware to old construction without compromising security or function. That’s especially important if your doors have settled over time or the frames have shifted.
Our work comes with a warranty on both labor and parts. If something we installed fails because of our work, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s not common in this industry, but it should be.
Professional door knob installation typically runs between $150 and $357 per door, depending on the type of hardware and the condition of your door. That includes labor and basic hardware—if you’re upgrading to high-security locks or smart locks, the cost goes up.
A lot of homeowners try to save money by doing it themselves, and half the time they end up calling us to fix it anyway. The most common issue is misalignment—the door won’t latch, or it latches but won’t lock. Fixing a bad DIY job usually costs more than just hiring a professional from the start.
If you’re replacing multiple door knobs at once, we can usually work out a better rate. It’s more efficient for us, and you’re not paying for multiple trip charges.
You can install a door knob yourself if the new hardware matches the old hardware exactly and your door is in good condition. But most people run into problems they didn’t expect—wrong backset, misaligned strike plate, or a latch that doesn’t catch properly.
One of the biggest mistakes is not understanding how the internal mechanism works. People rush through the removal, don’t pay attention to how the old knob came apart, and then can’t figure out how the new one goes together. What should take 10 minutes turns into a four-hour project with a lot of drilling and frustration.
If your door doesn’t close smoothly right now, if the frame has shifted, or if you’re upgrading to a different style of lock, hire someone who does this for a living. The security of your home depends on that lock working correctly, and improper installation leaves you vulnerable.
A door knob is round and requires you to grip and twist it to operate the latch. A door lever has a handle you push down, which takes less effort and works better for people with arthritis or limited hand strength.
Levers are also easier to use when your hands are full. If you’re carrying groceries or a kid, you can push a lever down with your elbow. You can’t do that with a knob.
From a security standpoint, they’re roughly equal if you’re using quality hardware. The bigger difference is in the locking mechanism—whether it’s a privacy lock, a passage lock, or a keyed entry lock. We can walk you through which type makes sense for each door in your home during the consultation.
If the door is prepped and the new hardware fits the existing holes, installation takes about 5 to 10 minutes per door. That’s just the installation itself—it doesn’t include the time it takes to remove old hardware, adjust the strike plate, or make any modifications to the door.
Most jobs take 30 minutes to an hour once we’re on-site, depending on how many doors you’re having done and whether we need to make adjustments. Older homes sometimes need extra work to get everything aligned properly.
If you’re switching from a knob to a lever or changing the backset, we may need to drill new holes or fill old ones. That adds time, but we handle it all in the same visit. You’re not waiting days for someone to come back and finish the job.
Yes. If you’re locked out, if your door knob broke and you can’t secure your door, or if you’ve had a break-in and need immediate hardware replacement, we respond to emergency calls in Yeadon and throughout Delaware County.
We typically arrive within 30 to 60 minutes for emergency requests, and we prioritize true emergencies—lockouts, security breaches, or situations where your home is vulnerable. If it’s urgent, we treat it that way.
We also handle emergency lock changes if you’ve lost your keys or if someone who shouldn’t have access to your home still has a key. We can rekey your existing locks on-site or install new ones, depending on what makes the most sense for your situation and your budget.
Yes. We install smart locks, keyless entry systems, and electronic deadbolts for homeowners who want more control over who enters their home and when. Smart locks let you lock and unlock your door from your phone, give temporary access codes to guests or contractors, and get alerts when someone enters.
The installation process is similar to traditional door knob installation, but we also make sure the lock integrates with your home’s existing setup—whether that’s WiFi, Bluetooth, or a full smart home system. Not all smart locks fit all doors, so we help you choose one that works with your door thickness, backset, and finish.
One thing to know: smart locks need power, usually batteries. We’ll show you how to change them and what to do if the battery dies while you’re away from home. Most models have a backup key option or an external power source for emergencies.
