Winter weather tips

Each winter we always get the same calls,
and it's not that we don't like hearing from you guys, but maybe we can help you save some coin and keep that blood pressure at a reasonable level!

So hang in here with me while we go over a few basic, easy tips to follow.

Make sure you're taking care of your door cylinders for your house and vehicle. They're out in the rain, ice, snow, cold and humidity 24/7. This can cause the pins/wafers on the inside to become corroded and/or stiff. They definitely require some lovin' every now and then. Give them a generous spray of WD-40 about 2x a year to keep that cylinder spinning smoothly.

These mornings are brutal. It's bloody cold, there's occasionally frost all over the windshield and no ones got time for this. So in hopes of starting your morning out good, you toddle out, in the cold, to your car, wrapped in a coat with slippers on your feet to start the car and BOOM you accidentally locked the keys inside. What the fluff. How can you prevent this?? Simple, crack a window. We get numerous calls from people who do this and its so easy to prevent. Get into the habit of starting the car and rolling that window down just enough to be able to reach in and unlock it!

You lost your car keys, it's cold out, maybe its snowing (or worse sleeting), you're already late for work and now completely miserable and frantic trying to find them. Hopefully, you had time to drink your coffee before this occurred. But wait, lets make this scenario even worse, you only had one key to begin with so you can't even grab the back up key. This actually happens quite often, even at times when people are out shopping.

Get in here and get a back up key before it's too late and you have to spend double the price of what you should've.

Your door hardware was failing but you figured you'd wait to repair it. But wait! Your stud of a grandson arrived, opened the door and well the hardware is on the floor now. It's a bad idea to wait to do repairs, especially in the winter...(but um, if your grandson looks anything like Chris Helmsworth, tell him to come into the store 😁......)

Anyway, now it's 25 degrees out and your front door isn't shutting properly. Now this has turned into an emergency, while we do our best to get out promptly, it doesn't always happen. Call asap for us to come out and service your hardware.

In a nut shell, crack your windows when warming up your vehicle, make sure you have at least two keys for your car (and home) and take care of those locks! Easy peasy!
